♥ MEET THE LWA SERIES AT ERZULIE’S VOODOO – VODOU LWA: EZILI DANTÒ (Erzulie Dantor)
♥ PRACTITIONER-LED INSIGHTS INTO THE SPIRITS OF HAITIAN VODOU!
Welcome to our Meet the Lwa series. Each page offers a brief overview of the Lwa’s origins, attributes, and ceremonial roles—designed for spiritual students, researchers, and practitioners seeking clarity and context.
These teachings were passed down to me by my elder Mambos, spiritual godparents, and our beloved Hougan Aboudja, in collaboration with Hougan Jour Mwen Lonje, whose lifelong service and deep initiatory knowledge continue to guide our work.
As the founder and Vodou practitioner of Erzulie’s Voodoo New Orleans, I created this archive to share the foundational aspects of each spirit with respect, accuracy (from our Vodou house’s perspective), and spiritual devotion. Every detail—from Veve symbols to ritual offerings—has been curated to reflect the integrity of our tradition and the legacy of those who came before us.
♥ Ezili Dantò: Mother of Haiti, Justice & Fierce Protection
Ezili Dantò is a powerful lwa of the Petwo rites. A single mother of twins and a hermaphrodite, she is known for her fierce independence, maternal devotion, and capacity for violence. The child in her arms—also a hermaphrodite—executes her works. Ezili Dantò is the spiritual mother of Haiti and a symbol of Black independence, unity, equality, justice, and above all, freedom.

♥ Characteristics & Manifestations
Ezili Dantò embodies coarse country ways, hard work, and self-reliance. She is the principle of motherhood—ferocious, protective, and deeply maternal. She defends women’s affairs and has killed men who abuse her daughters. Her violence can erupt without warning, sweeping away both the just and unjust. Those possessed by Ezili Dantò are prone to rage. She cannot speak, having no tongue, but stutters “kay-kay-kay-kay” while gesturing to be understood.
♥ Greetings
Bilolo!
